Aluminum Wiring – Where to go for Information?

Aluminum wiring was used in branch circuit wiring within homes from 1965 to the mid 1970s.  And it’s been estimated that this wiring was installed in around 2 million homes during that time.  Aluminum wiring used in these branch circuits (the circuits that run your outlets and lights) has been shown to be a fire hazard unless approved methods for connections are implemented by a electrician.

It’s important to understand the facts and to understand the next steps.  The Consumer Products Safety Commission has some solid publications on the topic.

The bottom line is that if your home has aluminum wiring in single strand branch wires, you have several options per the CPCS publication.  But you need to have a competent electrician to inspect all the connections and to ensure the proper steps have been taken to ensure safety.
